The feature is activated by connecting the AirPods to the iPhone. Users can then navigate to the settings menu dedicated to the AirPods, where a new "Remote Camera" tab will appear. By selecting a gesture, such as a press or long-press on the stem of the left or right AirPod, users can take a photo or start a video without needing to touch their phone's screen.

Wider Applicability Compared to Other Accessories

This feature provides an alternative to using an Apple Watch or other third-party accessories for remote camera control. The integration with AirPods, which are more commonly owned than Apple Watches, allows users to leverage an accessory they likely already possess.

The feature will also be available on iPadOS 26 and is activated in a similar manner. Further updates and features are anticipated with the final release of iOS 26, which is expected to follow Apple's September keynote.
