QuiX Quantum Secures €15 Million for Photonic Quantum Computer Development

Founded in 2019, QuiX Quantum has established itself as a key player in the field of photonic quantum computing in Europe. The company has delivered 8 and 64 qubit processors to the German Aerospace Center (DLR) since 2022 and launched a cloud platform in 2024 to enhance access to quantum computing for sectors such as defense, healthcare, infrastructure, and information technology. The recent funding will be used to develop a universal system based on single photons and silicon nitride chips, which are compatible with data centers and designed for mass production.

QuiX Quantum's CEO, Stefan Hengesbach , has highlighted that the first universal computer aims to address challenges in ultra-fast feed-forward electronics and single-photon sources, with a new generation planned for 2027 that will include error correction capabilities. This development is crucial for making quantum computing fault-tolerant and will open practical applications in chemistry, healthcare, fraud prevention, and artificial intelligence.

The photonic approach selected by QuiX Quantum is expected to offer significant performance improvements while reducing cooling requirements typically associated with competing architectures.

The Dutch company QuiX Quantum has announced a €15 million Series A funding round to accelerate the development of its first-generation universal photonic quantum computer. The goal is to bring a large-scale, fault-tolerant system to market by 2026, capable of performing any type of quantum operation. The funding round was co-led by Invest-NL and the EIC Fund , with participation from PhotonVentures , Oost NL , and FORWARD.one .
