The integration of artificial intelligence in recruitment processes, through AI-generated resumes, optimized cover letters, and interview-simulating agents, has contributed to the emergence of a "zero trust era" in recruitment. In response, startups such as Dex in London are introducing AI-based solutions.
Implementing AI to Enhance Human Interaction
Founded in 2024 by Paddy Lambros and Harry Uglow, former executives at Atomico, Dex has recently secured $3.1 million in funding from Andreessen Horowitz and Concept Ventures. The startup is developing a "voice agent" utilizing generative AI and matching algorithms to better understand candidate motivations and preferences.
Dex engages directly with candidates via voice to build comprehensive profiles of their intentions and ambitions, subsequently suggesting suitable opportunities. The AI also assists in interview preparation, salary benchmarking, and negotiation. For employers, the agent identifies explicit and implicit job requirements, focusing on behavioral and cultural factors.
According to Harry Uglow, CTO of Dex, the company aims to address an environment lacking trust, where employers encounter over-optimized or fraudulent profiles and candidates face dehumanized processes. Dex seeks to ensure that human interactions are meaningful from the start.
This approach contrasts with current market trends favoring automated CV scoring and batch processing tools like Metaview (UK), HireVue (US), and Gloat (Israel). Dex promotes a qualitative approach supported by voice analysis and behavioral history, positioning itself more as a digital agent than an HR management tool.

While Dex garners attention, other startups are also exploring this domain. In France, Bruce offers an alternative to temp agencies through algorithmic matching, while Maki People develops standardized recruitment tests based on cognitive models to evaluate soft skills more precisely.
These initiatives share a common goal: to restore trust and transparency in increasingly opaque recruitment processes.
Voice as a Tool for Emotion and Sincerity
Voice interactions may enhance compatibility detection. Studies in organizational psychology indicate that voice conveys crucial non-verbal signals such as hesitations, tone, and rhythm, which language processing models are beginning to decode accurately.
For Dex, this layer is critical for quality matching. "We aim to understand not just what a person does, but how they envision themselves, what they value, and what motivates them to stay within an organization," states Paddy Lambros. The AI agent acts as an interpreter of intentions in an environment where signals are obscured by tactical optimizations from both sides.
While Dex's proposition is appealing theoretically, it must prove itself within an ecosystem still dominated by centralized platforms (LinkedIn, Indeed) and traditional ATS systems. Currently, the startup remains in closed beta, targeting a limited audience primarily in the tech and finance sectors.
